By now, you may know that I am a big fan of the Dark Caravan Cycle by Heater Demetrios. Exquisite Captive is “a story of passion, of pain and ultimately of the power that can be found in freedom.” and Blood Passage is filled with “precise detailing, inspiring character growth and absolutely gorgeous writing”, making it an equally fabulous sequel. It’s no wonder that I went into the final book in the trilogy with exceedingly high expectations. All I wanted was for Nalia and Raif to finally find happiness after sacrificing so much for their home and for their people. Over the first two books in this series, I’d become invested in the stories of these characters, their lives and their fight for survival.

Oh man, you guys! This book totally snuck up on me. I mean, I was so intrigued when I read the description and immediately knew it would be the kind of book I would enjoy. But, what I didn’t know was how much I would enjoy it. “Of Fire and Stars” has a lot of what I love in a fantasy novel, but what really grabbed me was the love story. Vika Andreyeva can summon the snow and turn ash into gold. Nikolai Karimov can see through walls and conjure bridges out of thin air. They are enchanters—the only two in Russia—and with the Ottoman Empire and the Kazakhs threatening, the Tsar needs a powerful enchanter by his side.

And so he initiates the Crown’s Game, an ancient duel of magical skill—the greatest test an enchanter will ever know. The victor becomes the Imperial Enchanter and the Tsar’s most respected adviser. The defeated is sentenced to death.

Raised on tiny Ovchinin Island her whole life, Vika is eager for the chance to show off her talent in the grand capital of Saint Petersburg. But can she kill another enchanter—even when his magic calls to her like nothing else ever has?

For Nikolai, an orphan, the Crown’s Game is the chance of a lifetime. But his deadly opponent is a force to be reckoned with—beautiful, whip smart, imaginative—and he can’t stop thinking about her.

The Crown's Game by Evelyn Skye

Happy Monday, friends, and welcome to the Tsar’s Guard Parade! An epic three-month extravaganza celebrating the release of Evelyn Skye’s debut novel, The Crown’s Game. I just finished this book the other day, and I’m here to say that it is AMAZING! I can’t wait to share my full review with you soon. Today, I’m giving you a little sneak peek into one of my favorite scenes from The Crown’s Game.

This scene takes palace in the Tsar’s place where an extravagant masquerade ball is being held. It’s vibrant, mysterious, dramatic and features intense moments between some of the main characters. You’ll have to grab the book  when it releases on May 17th to read this scene in all of its glory, but for now, I’m sharing a mood board that was inspired by it…one of my favorite parts of the book. Welcome to the latest stop in the Blood Passage blog tour, hosted by Me, My Shelf and I. It’s such an honor to be a part of the excitement leading up to the release of the latest book from one of my very favorite authors, Heather Demetrios, and the second installment of The Dark Caravan cycle. If you haven’t read Exquisite Captive, the first book in this series, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy. You can check out my review from last year, but it’s safe to say I loved it! Here’s a quick little snippet of my review…

Exquisite Captive is a story that grabbed me from the very first page and pulled me along on a wild and transformative journey. There were times where my heart broke for Nalia, times when I wanted to scream at her for decisions she was making, times when I truly understood the price she was paying, and times when I passionately rooted for her as she fought to reclaim her life.  This is a story of passion, of pain and ultimately of the power that can be found in freedom.”
