Summer is my favorite time of year and what better way to celebrate the upcoming start of summer than with one of my favorite authors! As you probably know Emery Lord‘s fourth book, “The Names They Gave Us” just came out and it should come as no surprise that I absolutely loved it.
It’s the perfect mix of an emotional story of a young woman’s coming-of-age and a swoony summer romance. So, when it came time for me to provide Emery with a prompt for her guest post today, I knew I had to find out what her summer faves are!
Summer of Love with Emery Lord
Emery’s top ten list of favorite summertime feels
The smell of hose water
The dull roar of a community pool from a distance- the splashes and shrieks of joy
Windows down on the back roads with a favorite song up loud
Grilling out with friends, even the soggy paper plates and quickly-tepid beer
My two favorite summer records (always, but especially for summertime): Bruce Springsteen BORN IN THE USA & Aretha Franklin BEST OF THE 60s
Watching The Sandlot the morning of the Fourth of July before festivities
That jump from the pier or side of the boat into the water
The first night you realize it’s 8pm and still light out
A truly perfect lobster roll
A summer movie- in the park, at a drive-in, or in a movie theater with ice cold air conditioning on a really hot day

When it all falls apart, who can you believe in?
Everything is going right for Lucy Hansson, until her mom’s cancer reappears. Just like that, Lucy breaks with all the constants in her life: her do-good boyfriend, her steady faith, even her longtime summer church camp job.
Instead, Lucy lands at a camp for kids who have been through tough times. As a counselor, Lucy is in over her head and longs to be with her parents across the lake. But that’s before she gets to know her coworkers, who are as loving and unafraid as she so desperately wants to be.
It’s not just new friends that Lucy discovers at camp—more than one old secret is revealed along the way. In fact, maybe there’s much more to her family and her faith than Lucy ever realized.
