Happy Friday, friends! It’s week two of the newly resurrected Fangirl Friday and today we have the lovely Brittany from Brittany’s Book Rambles. I’m a new fan of Brittany’s (don’t know what took me so long? Yikes!) and am thrilled to have her on the blog. Go check hers out when you get a chance not only is she an expert level gif master but her blog is absolutely gorgeous! Seriously, her blog design makes me swoon!
I’m loving Brittany’s guest post for Fangirl Friday and am hoping you discover some new to you POC authors or books that you may not have known about before. All of the books she mentions are on my TBR and I can’t wait to get to them. Especially after Brittany’s fabulous recommendations.
Hi guys! And Sarah, thank you for having me on your blog! Fangirl Friday is such an awesome feature, and I am thrilled to be a part of it 😀 Now I digress…
The past couple of months have been some of my best ever in terms of reading enjoyment. I’ve been so lucky that the majority of my reads have been incredible! Another thing I’ve noticed that makes me happy—I’ve read a ton of wonderful diverse books lately—in many cases where both the author is a POC and the book features a diverse cast of characters! So today, I’m going to be fangirling about three of my favorite recent diverse reads! I picked my favorite fantasy, contemporary, and sci-fi! It also doesn’t hurt that the three of them happen to have stunning cover art 🙂
Favorite Recent Diverse Books By POC Authors!
So we all know that Roshani’s The Star-Touched Queen was a spectacular debut, and I loved that book! But for her sophomore novel, she absolutely outdoes herself in every possible way. A Crown of Wishes has everything you could possibly want—hilarious and witty characters, an adorable romance, action, adventure, magic, and a swoony guy to boot 😉 This book is everything, and it’s by far my favorite recent diverse fantasy.
Oh my gosh, this book is literally one huge precious cinnamon roll in itself. The two main narrators—Dimple and Rishi—are both so adorable, even on their own. They’re so likable and fleshed-out and funny, but when you put them together as a couple? It’s utter perfection. When I first started reading When Dimple Met Rishi, I probably knew within the first few chapters with certainty that this would forever be one of my favorite diverse contemporaries. Additionally, the cultural aspects are so wonderfully woven into the plot in a casual and effortless way. This book is just entirely amazing, and everyone needs to read it 😀
When people ask me to briefly describe Empress of a Thousand Skies, I simply tell them that in my mind, it’s like a diverse Illuminae crossed with Fifth Element. Though the formatting isn’t crazy like The Illuminae Files, this stunning debut is told from multiple POVs, and it’s packed to the brim with heart-stopping action. The plot will literally have you on the edge of your seat the entire time you’re tearing though the pages, and it’s pretty much impossible to predict what will happen, so you’ll be constantly shocked and surprised! This book is definitely my recent favorite diverse sci-fi 🙂
Upcoming Diverse Books By POC Authors That I’m Dying For!
So Flame in the Mist and Forest of a Thousand Lanterns are definitely my two most anticipated diverse books written by POC authors. Renée Ahdieh is one of my favorite authors, as I adore her The Wrath and the Dawn duology, and I already started reading Flame, and I am absolutely loving it! Forest is a book that I’ve been dying to get my hands on it ever since I read a two-line synopsis about it last year and knew that I must have it 😀
What about you guys? What are your favorite diverse books written by POC authors? What books are you anticipating? 🙂 And thank you again, Sarah, for having me on your blog for Fangirl Friday!
