Fate and fortune. Power and passion. What does it take to be the queen of a kingdom when you're only seventeen?

Maya is cursed. With a horoscope that promises a marriage of Death and Destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father's kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran's queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar's wife, she finds something else entirely: Compassion. Protection. Desire...

But Akaran has its own secrets -- thousands of locked doors, gardens of glass, and a tree that bears memories instead of fruit. Soon, Maya suspects her life is in danger. Yet who, besides her husband, can she trust? With the fate of the human and Otherworldly realms hanging in the balance, Maya must unravel an ancient mystery that spans reincarnated lives to save those she loves the most. . .including herself.

A lush and vivid story that is steeped in Indian folklore and mythology. The Star-Touched Queen is a novel that no reader will soon forget.

The Star-Touched Queen

It’s going to be pretty difficult for me to put into words just how this book made me feel. I’ve never read anything quite like it. There are so many ways in which I could describe it, but as I reflect back on the reading experience, I knew that it was more than just a book, a story or a novel.

The Star-Touched Queen is…

A dream…

A painting…

A poem…

A song…

A riddle…

As we follow Maya’s journey from an unloved daughter with a doomed future to an unrelenting queen and wife with a power she never knew she was capable of, we’re pulled deep into a story of loss, mourning, discovery and redemption. Maya travels from her past into an unknown future, and with each turn of the page, the reader is treated to fantastical creatures, intriguing characters and elaborate twists in the story. Each character in this story is fascinating, but I found myself strangely drawn to Amar, a mysterious ruler of an equally mysterious land of Akaran. In this land nothing is as it seems and everything is a riddle waiting to be solved. He’s dark, brooding, emotional, passionate and willing to sacrifice everything he is for love. The chemistry between he and Maya was undeniable and I was swooning hard! As we learn more about him, I just wanted more. I was just as invested in his story as I was Maya’s.

Chokshi’s world-building is unlike anything I have ever read before. I’d love to get inside that creative, twisted and colorful mind of hers to discover just how exactly she manages to dream up this stuff. We’re treated to so many different places in this book and they are all as fascinating and unique as the next. With each page I turned, I made a new revelation and was thrust deeper into the mysticism and magic of the story. I for one, couldn’t put the book down and was so enthralled by the way Chokshi weaves her words together to craft sentences and passages that are utterly spell-binding. If anything, you should read this book for the sheer beauty of the Chokshi’s words. It’s truly a revelation.

  3. […] lost in her words. This is a companion novel to roshani’s YA fantasy debut from last year, “The STar-Touched queen” and if it’s even half as amazing, it’s going to be an epic […]
