Top Ten Tuesday / Hamilton Book Tag Mash-Up

– hosted by The Broke and the Bookish -
– hosted by The Broke and the Bookish –

Okay, so I just want to admit right away that I took some SERIOUS artistic liberties with this week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt. First of all, there’s WAYYY more than ten books here, and for that I will NOT apologize. I mean, I’m in a safe place here, right? Surrounded by other book nerds who love books as much as I do. I challenge any one of you to tell me there is such thing as “too many” books! Not gonna happen! Second, the topic this week is supposed to be the top ten songs I wish that were books. Well, my choices below are all songs inspired by a book…HAMILTON!

The composer, Lin-Manuel Miranda, was so inspired while reading the Alexander Hamilton biography by Ron Chernow, the epic story of one of America’s founding fathers, that he wrote nearly FIFTY songs that has become the HUGE Broadway hit, Hamilton. I don’t know…maybe you’ve heard of it? As for me…I’m completely obsessed. I’m now in my fourth week of listening to the soundtrack (free on: Amazon Prime | Spotify) at least twice a day and am currently awaiting my yearly bonus at work so I can buy a ticket to go see it this spring! Pray for me friends! If I’m not able to see the original Broadway cast…I may perish from utter disappointment and sadness!

This is all to say, when I saw that this week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt had to do with music, I had no choice but to share my responses to the Hamilton Book Tag that’s been making its rounds in the book blogger world. Get ready for extreme epicness, friends!

Pssst…be sure to click on the song lyrics to be taken to the full song.
Trust me, you WANT to hear the whole song!

The Room Where It Happens

“I wanna be in the room where it happens.”

– A book world you put yourself in –

I loved Passenger soooo much and I would give anything to be able to travel to different time periods like Etta and Nicholas! How cool would it be to be part of a world where you could travel to the Middle Ages or the Roaring Twenties? Or maybe in the actual room where anything of historical importance happened. Yes, please!

 The Schuyler Sisters

“So men say that I’m intense or I’m insane. You want a revolution? I want a revelation so listen to my declaration…”

– An underrated female character –

Yael, in Wolf by Wolf, had this ridiculously amazing mix of vulnerability and strength, along with tireless dedication to her mission. Nobody saw her coming and I was so awe-struck over how she continuously managed to prove everybody wrong! If you’re looking for a female MC with some serious grit and determination, look no further!

My Shot

“I’m past patiently waitin’. I’m passionately smashin’ every expectation. Every action’s an act of creation! I’, laughin’ in the face of casualties and sorrow.”

– A character that goes after what they want and
doesn’t let anything stop them –

I just recently read Blackhearts and boy, did I love it! Anne was such a quiet heroine but she managed to never lose sight of her goal, no matter what was thrown in her way. She’ll do whatever it takes to break free of her current situation and find a better life. Anne is fierce, determined and I was SO on board with her mission!

You’ll Be Back

“Cuz when push comes to shove, I will kill your friends and family
to remind you of my love”

– Sassiest Villain –

There is soooo much swoon and sexy times in A Court of Thorns and Roses, that it’s really easy for me to totally forget that there is an epically bad baddie in this book too! But man, Amarantha is sooooo twisted and evil, and girlfriend has a killer sense of style too! There’s nothing I love more than a villain who knows how to…WORK!

The Reynolds Pamphlet

“Have you read this?”

– A Book with a twist you didn’t see coming –

Illuminae was the rollercoaster of emotions! Up and down, left and right…half of the time I didn’t know what the heck was going to happen next or how the whole thing was going to end. I’ll tell you what…I DID NOT see that end coming and it made my brain explode. I LOVE a good twist, and Illuminae totally SERVED!

“Maaaaan, that man is non-stop!”

 -A series you marathoneD –

I read the Stage Dive series in less than three days, and I loved every moment of it! This series is definitely of the more mature variety and has very explicit content, so it may not be for everyone, especially younger readers. But, this series hooked me from page one and I could NOT stop!

“So this is what it feels like to match wits with someone at your level!
What the hell is the catch?”

-Favorite Book with multiple POVs –

The multiple narratives in Six of Crows was one of my very favorite parts of the book. Bardugo did such a wonderful job giving each character their own distinct voice. From Kaz’s dark humor and dry wit to Inej’s snarky banter…I never once confused voices. Which in my opinion is the hallmark of an excellent writer. To have so many clear and true voices, all contributing so much to the same story is such an accomplishment in writing.

Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story

“But when you’re gone, who remembers your name? Who keeps your flame?”

– A Book/Series You Feel Will Be Remembered Throughout History –

The entire Lunar Chronicles series is so unique, with such a fun and exciting story, that it’s hard not to get swept away in the imagination of it all! I have a feeling people will be talking about this one for a while!

Just a few more categories that the lovely Angie on Lady Knight Reads’ post came up with for the tag! I’m having so much fun with these I just CANNOT STOP!

“Look into your eyes, and the sky’s the limit I’m helpless!
Down for the count, and I’m drownin’ in ‘em”

– A Relationship You Were Pulling for From the Very Start –

PicMonkey Collage

Ha ha, like you guys actually though I could pick one couple! Yeah, that’ll never happen! Here’s four books I’ve read in the past year that feature couples I totally shipped from PAGE ONE! I was alllll about these couples and I STILL am! I will go down with these ships! Forever and always!

The Boy Most Likely To | The Kiss of Deception | The Wrath and the Dawn | I’ll Meet You There

 Ten Duel Commandments

“Look ‘em in the eye, aim no higher. Summon all the courage you require.”

 -Favorite Fight Scene –

For those of you who have read this series, you know that there are some pretty epic fight scenes (“Get up!”) and each book just takes it to the next level. I don’t think I could choose just one, so I’m lumping them all together. Because I can….okay?!

 What Comes NexT

“You’re on your own. Awesome! Wow! Do you have a clue what happens now?”

– A Series You Wished Had More Books –

I mean, I haven’t even read the final books in these series and I already miss them. Can’t we just pay Mary and Jodi to keep on writing all the books?! Because The Orphan Queen duology and The Remnant Chronicles are just THAT GOOD!

 Right-Hand Man

“I cannot be everywhere at once, people. I’m in dire need of assistance…”

 -Favorite Bro-TP –

Absolutely, without a doubt, my vote goes to Allen A Dale and David from Lion Heart by A.C. Gaughen! This is the bromance of all bromances and these two were hilarious together.

 What’d I Miss

“Let’s get to the bottom of this…”

– A Book or Series You Were Late to Reading –

Kristina from Gone Pecan and I just started reading this series as part of our Book Avengers feature. You can check out our reviews of The Darkest Minds and Never Fade, and I know a review of In the Afterlight won’t be far behind! I am really loving this series.

  8. Oh my gosh Sarah this is everything. I desperately need to do this tag. I am with you on the Hamilton obsession. It’s been about a month for me too and I can barely bring myself to listen to anything else. I stalk LMM’s tweets and just can’t get enough!

I really want to read Kylie’s series! I’m glad you liked it so much!

  9. I really hope I can snag a ticket to see Hamilton! It just seems like the type of musical I’m really going to enjoy (and I finally got my first taste of it with their performance at the Grammys). Loved seeing your tag!

  10. Oh my gosh, I love this! Books and Hamilton all in one place! Such great answers, too! The fight scenes in all the TOG books are some of my favorites, and I was totally rooting for the couple in Boy Most Likely to from the beginning. From the book before, even, haha.

Also, this post is reminder # 7292847 that I really need to get reading the Lunar Chronicles, LOL.

  11. Really great post. I’m a huge musical theater fan and since I live no where near NYC I bought the album as soon as it came out last fall! I loved Lin-Manuel Miranda’s previous musicals: “In the Heights” and “Bring it on” (I especially love “In the Heights”: ). And I knew I’d love this one too.

What I especially like about this post is how well you picked different book categories from the different songs. And your picks for each really fit. Bravo!

Hey, I’m in favor of anyone anywhere talking about musicals or books. And when they do the two together: even better!!

  12. […] Sarah’s answer here because I literally can’t think of any other villains that you could consider […]
