Flights of Fantasy Reading Challenge 2016

I was pretty excited when I first heard Alexa and Rachel were bringing back their Flights of Fantasy Reading Challenge for 2016. I signed up last year and was all pumped to read 40 books, but then LIFE happened and all of my reading challenges fell to the wayside. Now that life is back to normal, I’m so excited to try this one again. I’m a HUGE fan of fantasy novels, so I know that I can totally rock my goal this time around!

Over the next 12 months I’ll challenge myself to read at least 30 fantasy novels. That’s down from the number of fantasy books I read in 2014, which was FIFTY, but up a bit from what I read in 2015, which was about 25. You can read ALLLLL about why my number was so much smaller in 2015. Let’s just say…life was a bit nutty!

Here are some of my favorite fantasy series that I DID read in 2015!
Looking at this list makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

FaveFantasy

QUEEN OF SHADOWS / THE REMNANT CHRONICLES / SIX OF CROWS
THE WINNER’S CRIME / THE FALLING KINGDOMS SERIES
AN EMBER IN THE ASHES / THE IMPOSTER QUEEN
THE YOUNG ELITES SERIES /  A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES
THE ORPHAN QUEEN /  RED QUEEN

This year, I’m looking forward to even more epic books to discover, and at the end of the month I’ll come back to this post and update all of you on my progress and link back to any reviews that went live. Hope you’ll join me in the fun as I discover even more amazing YA fantasy novels to fall in love with!

  1. This challenge is so much fun! I participated last year and set myself to read 30, but ended up reading 44 haha This year I’ll not be participating because I want to focus on more life stuff and already took part of A series a month so yeah, but can’t wait to hear about your progress and obvs add more amazing fantasy titles to my TBR! Good luck.

      Thanks for the support Deyse!

  2. So I excited to read Falling Kingdoms this year. And The Imposter Queen sounds great as well.

Perhaps I’ll get to ACoTaR and QoS — the other two from your list I haven’t read yet. I was thinking I’d read QoS closer to book 5’s release — or maybe book 6 depending on how bad the cliff hanger is.

I read 48 YA fantasies in 2015 and there were so many good ones. But here are my top 10 favs of the year. *Roughly* in order of most fav to least.

The Winner’s Crime — Marie Rutkoski
The Kiss of Deception — Mary E. Pearson
The Heart of Betrayal — Mary E. Pearson
Six of Crows — Leigh Bardugo
    Crimson Bound — Rosamund Hodge
The Scorpio Races — Maggie Stiefvater
The Orphan Queen — Jodi Meadows
An Ember in the Ashes — Sabaa Tahir
Snow Like Ashes — Sara Raasch
A Thousand Pieces of You — Claudia Gray

Seeing lots of great books on your list!!

  3. Good luck! I’m participating in Flights of Fantasy for the first time this year and I’m thinking (?) I shouldn’t have a problem reaching my goal, especially considering how many amazing fantasy books are coming out this year!

So glad to see you’re taking part too and can’t wait to see how many you read! So much great fantasy…so little time!!!

  4. Good luck, Sarah! I’m joining the challenge for the first time this year. Good luck with your 30 FoF books! Might be a tad easy to reach when you consider all the series that are out there/completing in 2016/continuing in 2016!

  5. Arlene Allen

No Queen of the Tearing or Invasion of the Tearling? They were great.

Haven’t read those yet… Maybe this year!

  6. Yay good luck! I participated last year and was so happy that I read 23 out of my goal of 20! I love fantasy but I never read as much as I think I’m going to. Hoping to catch up on some backlist fantasy this year 🙂

  7. So glad you’re joining us for the 2016 Flights of Fantasy Reading Challenge, Sarah! I definitely love setting a goal to read more fantasy novels; it’s a genre that I really do enjoy, and I love finding new favorites, whether they’re new releases or backlist books. Here’s to hoping we both hit our challenge goals this year!
